ABOUT RICHARD TEW

Richard began his Irish dancing with Colm O’Maoileidigh, TCRG in Houston, TX.

While under Colm’s instruction, Richard progressed rapidly through the levels of competition.  In one year’s time he was ready to compete in the more advanced levels.  

Richard also took Irish dance from Neil Reagan, ADCRG in San Antonio, TX along with Eimir Eimir Ni’Maoileidigh, TCRG in Austin, TX.

Having danced most of his young adult life, Richard traveled all over the country competing and winning awards and titles.  Having won five championship trophies in a row, within the span of just over a year's time, he quickly established himself as one of the top local contenders in the Irish dance circuit.

Richard has competed at and placed second at the 2001 Southern Region 

Oireachtas, held in Clearwater, FL.  He returned in 2003 to Norfolk, VA to win the Oireachtas and became the Senior Men’s champion for that year.  To wrap up his competitive career, Richard competed at the North American Championships of Irish dance 2003, held in Nashville, TN.  He then returned the following year to Philadelphia, PA where he took 6th place for the second year in a row.  As a result of his being able to place/win at the 2 Regionals and 2 Nationals, he qualified for World Championships on four separate occasions. 

For the last 6 years, Richard has been teaching an eager bunch of dancers during the week in Houston, TX.  He hopes to be able to pass on his love for dancing to these budding students.  Richard is the Executive Producer of "Rince Resource”,  a highly popular resource on Youtube.com where dancers and enthusiasts can learn steps and tips to improve their skills.  He is also the producer for the DVD version of Rince Resource which is available now at aaidt.com. He is a registered teacher, adjudicator, and teacher trainer with AAIDT, where he is responsible for teacher/adjudicator training and continuing education along with recruitment of new members.
