What you need for Irish dancing:

It is alright if you come the first, second and third week without ghillies, but by the time you’ve been coming a while, it’s time to get Irish dance shoes!  First off, if you are a girl, you will need ghillies, if you are a boy, you need to get men’s reel shoes.

It is preferred to get new ones, because they are easy to break in and they last much longer, but used ones are fine too.  Do not buy Scottish dancing shoes!  They are quite different from Irish, though they may look the same.  Make sure with the person you buy them from that they are some form of Irish dancing shoes: Rutherford, Antonio Pacelli, etc.

We will help explain more on the shoes and help you get them when you come to dance.

Do not worry about buying hard shoes for several months, because you will not be learning hard shoe for a while.  We will let you know the details  on those kind of shoes when you are ready.  :)

You do not need special outfits just to come to class.  All you need is flexible pants/shorts (modest)/leggings, a regular shirt and socks.  We also have a dress code: Green shirt, black bottoms.  It’s fine if you come the first several times without these colors.  If you are not planning on buying ghillies/men’s reel shoes for a while, you can look into purchasing some cheap ballet shoes/jazz shoes and you can use those for a while.  We don’t want you dancing without shoes very often because you could hurt your feet or land on your toes wrong.  We really encourage getting some sort of soft dance shoe if you cannot buy ghillies/men’s reel shoes at the time.

Thank you for checking out the info page, let us know if you  have any questions!
